About this site

About this site

researchbitcoin.net is home to Bitcoin Lab by researchbitcoin.net, an analytics platform for Bitcoin on-chain data. We have been active in the crypto space since 2017, and this site launched in 2022.

Our mission

Bitcoin Lab exists to help people understand Bitcoin through transparent, data-driven education. We make on-chain data accessible and encourage everyone to use it to deepen their understanding of Bitcoin’s protocol mechanics and market dynamics.

To support this goal, all charts and most API metrics are openly available and free to use. You are welcome to share and redistribute our data and charts, provided you clearly attribute them to Bitcoin Lab by researchbitcoin.net.

What we provide

  • Bitcoin Lab Charts: An on-chain charting suite with 300+ metrics
  • Bitcoin Lab API: Programmatic access to raw and aggregated on-chain data
  • Bitcoin Lab Pulse: A dashboard tracking minute-to-minute on-chain conditions
  • Original research: In-depth articles and analyses
  • Blog: Updates, commentary, and explainers

History

The project started as a personal effort to understand Bitcoin from first principles. After reading the Bitcoin white paper, I set out to work directly with raw on-chain data by running my own node. What stood out immediately was the protocol’s brilliant idea and elegant simplicity, hallmarks I associate with technologies that endure.

I founded The Bitcoin Lab (previously known as ResearchBitcoinNow, and later Bitcoin Researcher’s Lab). As a scientist, I quickly realized that on-chain analytics was still a nascent field, with few people working hands-on with raw blockchain data at the time. We - including me - had a great deal to learn.

To address this gap, I built the original RBN software in R (for those familiar with statistical programming). The tool was designed to ingest blockchain data and enable systematic analysis. In 2021, I launched the first free suite of on-chain charts. Since then, the platform has evolved through multiple major iterations, including the most recent addition: live, block-by-block on-chain data streams.
